Discipline

Since Derek has been home he has also instituted a new form of discipline. One that does not involve yelling (which mine often does). If the kids forget to hang up their towel from their shower, they become the towel rack. If they leave out shoes or toys they owe push-ups or squat thrusters (as Kaia calls them) Sometimes they stand back to back and have to hold their arms out to the side or above their head for a prescribed amount of time. Sometimes they think it is fun (maybe cause it is new), but mostly they whine :) But I tell ya, we have had far fewer incidences of towels being left unhung or shoes and toys left out!

Week one...

So one week down, a million more to go... This week I was not as good as I should have been:( I did lose a pound though! Gotta give myself credit for that at least. Since beginning work as a counselor, I realize I do not particularly enjoy some aspects of an office. My secretary is an amazing baker and while she will never eat any of her own cooking, she is happy to make delicious treats for the rest of us. So while the rest plump it up, she has lost 17 pounds. So this week I am going to resist her evil treats and eat my own carefully planned and portioned food. So my picture this week may look very similar to last week's because I only lost a pound but soon enough I will start to see a difference... Hooray!

158 lbs.

Another date.

Derek and I did this a couple weeks ago. He planned it all out and wouldn't tell me where we were going. He took me to a place called Fast Lap off of Polaris. Now this is no ordinary Go Kart racing track. You have to watch a safety video, wear a racing uniform, helmet, and gloves. Derek said I looked like the little boy from a Christmas Story :( Rude!
Anyway each race lasts about 10 minutes and you race who ever is there. For three of our four races Derek and I raced each other, but for one race another guy was there. My best time was 32.09 seconds, and Derek's was 29.95 seconds. It was really fun, but because I suck at it one tends to get tired of not knowing how to do it. Derek said he could have stayed all night, and wants to take his brother when he is in town again. Then we went to one of our favorite sushi restaurants, Sushi Twister.

We also had to wear a neck brace!
Derek tried on three different uniforms and each one had a wardrobe malfunction problem, so he opted out, but I didn't want to get oil on my jeans so I wore one.

Me in my lucky 13 racer!

You can kinda see the track.

It is my turn to plan an evening out...any suggestions? I only have him home for two more weeks! :(

Weight loss...

Remember the days when you were excited to get on the scale? I'm talking way back when you were a kid. My children have a fascination with the scale. Kaia will try on different shoes of mine and get on the scale to see which ones she weighs the most in. She can't wait to weigh 60 lbs. I don't know why... Anyway I decided since I am tired of being sad every time I get on the scale I need to do something more public to motivate myself to lose some weight (again!!!) That's right, last year I lost 27 lbs. and now I have managed to gain almost ALL OF IT BACK! So every Friday I am going to weigh and take a picture and post it just so I know it is out there and that there is a record of it. I'm tired of feeling bad about looking at my body and I'm ready to do something about it :) So here is the first installment: The picture was taken Friday morning after my run...

Starting weight: 159 LBS!

A favorite...

Since Derek has been home he has not lost any time jumping back into the swing of things at our house. He takes care of morning duty with the kids (waking them up, getting them ready for school, breakfast), he does the laundry, stays on top of the kids about chores, washes dishes, mops the floor etc... but my favorite is that everyday after school when the boys get home from school he sits down at the table with them and helps them with their homework no matter how long it takes! He quizes (and quizzes) them on spelling words, and word card words. He helps with Math, reading you name it! I love to see that and I love it when the boys come home on Friday all excited becuase they aced their spelling test. It will be so sad when he leaves again because I am not as diligent as he is with homework. I know slap my wrists I am a teacher, but I even hated to give it out to my students cause I know how busy life can be at home. He probably doesn't want anyone knowing about his "softer" side but I have to show those kinds of things off :)

P.S. He does the same thing with Kaia when she gets home from school at noon.
