Grandma's Wigs!

My mother-in-law came over today before she left for Monticello tomorrow. She showed me two wigs she bought for herself to wear when she doesn't feel like fixing her hair. Of course, she and my children thought it was a good idea to try them on. Enjoy!

Quick weekend trip to Lagoon

This happened almost a month ago, but time has gotten away from me... My mother-in-law called at the end of August and asked if I would want to bring the kids and meet her in Salt Lake for a weekend and she would pay for out trip to Lagoon. Well how do you pass up free? She not only paid for our tickets to Lagoon, she paid for my gas up and back, all our meals, tickets to Hogle Zoo, and our lodging! My sister-in-law came up from Monticello with Nancy (mother-in-law) so my kids got to see their cousins too. It was a whirl-wind trip: I worked all day Friday and we left at 4pm after the boys got home from school. We didn't get to Ogden (where we stayed)until about 11:30pm. Up at 6am Saturday to get ready. Lagoon all day until we were rained out at 8pm. Asleep by 10pm. Up at 7am Sunday to get ready for the Zoo. At the zoo at 11:30 to celebrate Zack's ninth b-day, we stayed until 4:30pm. Quick stop at IKEA until closing @6pm then a six hour drive home. We got home at about 11pm. I had to then get up at 4:45 so I could get to work on time Monday morning! It was quick but we had so much fun, and I didn't fall asleep while driving (I'm known to do that)

Kaia and I before our saloon shoot.
The saloon photo! I love Kaia's face... she looks right out of the 1800's!
We were surrounded by bees the whole time!
Matthew developed a crazy fear of them while we were there. I know I should have been consoling him, but I thought it would be great to take his sad little picture instead :)

Zack and McKayla with Ronald after breakfast
This is Zack's birthday cake at the Zoo. Nancy bought all the kids a hat too and Zack picked out the biggest one!

Our first broken bone!

Last Wednesday when I got home from the gym I jumped in the shower, was hurrying to get ready cause I ony had a few minutes before Kaia got out of school the phone rang... I see the school's number and assume it is the health office. Let me explain... This shouldn't be a good thing but everytime I see the school's number I assume it is the health office telling me that one of my children has peed their pants (yes it happens that much!) So sure enough they say, "Hello this is the Iverson elem health office..." I cut them off and say, "Ah, yes who do you have this time?" (like the insensitive mother that I am :) There is a silence and then she says, "Yes, we have Matthew in the health office, he has fallen off the monkey bars at recess and hurt his wrist. It looks bent so you need you have it checked out." So now I'm thinking what a creep I sounded like on the phone before and we probably have our first broken bone. So I call our doctor and ask if I should bring him in there first or go right to the emergency room, they tell me the emergency room. I grab some make-up and some bobby pins and I rush up to the school to get Matty. He's sitting in the health office with his teacher. His left arm is resting on a blanket, and it was covered by a paper towel. They lifted up the paper towel to show me his arm, and as soon as I saw it I knew it was broken. It looked so gross, all bent weird and stuff.
So long story short, we get to the hospital, it's x-rayed, and it is broken. The radius is broken all the way through and the ulna has a greenstick fracture. So he broke both bones in his left arm. I kept thinking as the doctors and nurses are asking him how he did it if they are secrectly thinking that I did it.
We went to the orthopaedic doctor the next day and Matty picked out a red cast. I got to sign it first, and then everyone else he sees he asks them to sign it. He's got to wear the long cast for six weeks and then the short cast for six weeks! So come January we will be cast free!
That eliminates the rest of the soccer season, and wrestling for this year too. My calendar just opened wide up! Of course we still go to the soccer games to support the team (and Matthew loves the attention :) It could have been way worse, and now we have our first broken bone out of the way :)

Before the sling

After the sling--much happier

In this x-ray you can see both fractures.

They had him rest his arm on a stack of baby wipes.

P.S. I can't wait for the bill for this adventure :)

Kaia and Alexa's afternoon at the nail salon

I needed a pedicure, and I have taken Kaia several times to go get her toes done with me, so just as we were leaving Alexa knocked on the door and Kaia told her we were going to get our toes done. Alexa asked if she could come, and crazy me I said yes :) We checked with Carla to make sure it was okay, and she said it was so we were off. (Really she asked if I was feeling okay to want to take the both of them :)We went over ground rules in tha car since Alexa had never gotten her toes done I made Kaia tell her the rules:
1. Mom's takes longer so we have to be patient and wait quietly.
2. No running around the salon
3. Follow directions

I always go to the place right by the Albertson's by my house so as soon as we got in Kaia helped Alexa pick a color.

At first they were picking several colors so I told them to narrow it to one.

Kaia chose red glittery and Alexa chose gold glittery.

They looked so cute sitting in those big chairs. They had fun messing with the remote controls. Their favorite was the vibrating.

First, the woman did Alexa toes.

Then she did Kaia's toes.

While they were waiting for me to finish they went to look at the nail designs across the salon.

Alexa asked if they could get a treat after we were done. I told her getting her nails done is a treat. She said, " No, I mean something to lick or eat." So we went to Great Harvest, and they got some bread and a soda. and both made it out alive :)

They were very good and aside from Kaia's temper tantrum before we left the salon I would do it again.
